10 Weeks!

Baby is nearly an inch and a half long and the size of a prune, but not nearly as shriveled. In fact, your baby is really taking a human shape now. Bones and cartilage are forming, and small indentations on the legs are developing into knees and ankles. The arms (complete with elbows) can flex already, but don't run to the store for a baseball bat just yet. Though your baby's arms are taking shape and getting stronger, each one is only about the size of this number 1.

The tooth bud fairy is making her appearance this week, heralding the arrival of your baby's little choppers, which are forming under the gums. Your baby's stomach is producing digestive juices, the kidneys are producing larger quantities of urine, and, if your baby's a boy, he's already producing testosterone (yikes!).

Coming Out to parents

Of course we wanted to do something with every set of parent as we told them...it hasn't quite worked out that way. So when we really come out and tell the world we will for sure do it in a fun way!!

I told my mom via Skype! I had sent her some "vision boards" with decorating ideas on them. As she went through each slide and picked out the things she liked and disliked, I couldn't wait for her to get to the slides with cribs. She didn't quite get it at first. I had to say well I know how much you like birds and we really like this crib bedding and since you may be sharing a room with the baby when you come to visit in September we wanted to make sure you liked the room!! She was SHOCKED. It sucks she lives in California but it was a great way to tell her because I got to see her reaction! Thank the Lord for Skype!!

So the past 2 weeks we have told my Dad & Ruthie as well as Nick's parents. It kind of just came out with my Dad. I was over visiting and just felt like I couldn't hold it in anymore. I spilled the beans. Him and Ruthie were both very exciting and pretty shocked!!

We had planned to do something fun with Nick's Parent's since they would be in town visiting this weekend. We are a family of game loving fools. So on Friday after dinner we played a game of Progressive Gin. Nick and I had already rigged it where we pulled the jokers out of the card deck and wrote in sharpie that we were having a baby! So when Nick's parents both said that they only had 9 cards, and 10 are needed for the game Nick handed them each the jokers as the additional cards. His dad right away said wait this is a joker we can't use them in this game right? And I just said yeah you can with a big grin. He hadn't caught on and threw it on the table. Nick's mom then started staring at the card. She had just put the joker in her hand and not thought twice about looking at it. She was too occupied with Chuck's card and what it read. She stared at it and then looked up at me and said "Are you really" we both nodded and she jumped up and gave me hug! Chuck was totally confused at this point and then read the card and picked up on it! They were both so excited and of course the game was put on hold for an hour while Momma G & I gabbed! ;O)
It was prefect.

We cannot wait to tell the rest of the families on Easter!! We will be in Roanoke to tell Nick's family at the dinner table as well as Skype my side of the family in California. I think we may wait to tell the rest of my Dad's side at his birthday dinner a few days after Easter! We cannot wait!!!

Week 9

Good-bye embryo, hello fetus. Your baby is now about one inch long, the size of a medium green olive (hold the martinis, please), with a heart that's developed enough — and large enough — to be heard with a Doppler. Tiny muscles are beginning to form, so while he might not be ready to pump iron, he's gearing up to move his arms and legs. The head has straightened out and is more fully developed, the ears are much more prominent, and some new organs (the liver, spleen, and gallbladder) are forming.

Appointment Follow-Up

Appointment went well. I love my OB/GYN, Dr. Brown! She was a recommendation from a friend who had her little girl about 4 months ago! She was very nice and informative. She wanted to make sure she had all my medical history down correctly and wanted to make sure I wasn't concerned. It wasn't too exciting. No baby seeing or hearing. Just an exam. She said everything felt good! So I am taking that as a good sign!!

I will be checking with our insurance this week to see what genetic tests are covered. If the NT scan is covered I will be getting my next u/s around 12 weeks on March 17th. We are of course counting down the days to hear the heartbeat again!!!

My appointment schedule looks a little like this:
12 Weeks (March 17)-Review lab results and hear heartbeat on doppler for first time!! *again may be getting NT scan this day
16 Weeks (approx April 14)-Quad Screen (optional test that screens for Down;s, spina bifida, & trisomy 18
20 Weeks(approx May 12)-Screening Ultrasound!!! That's when we will see the sex!!!
24 Weeks(approx June 9)- Gestational Diabetes Screening
28 Weeks (approx July 7)-Routine Visit. Rh neg shot if needed.
32 Weeks(approx August 4)-Routine visit. Asses for proper fetal grown which may include another u/s
36 Weeks (approx September 1)- Pelvic exam to asses cervical changes.
Then the weekly visits start! 36-41 weeks!

Appt tomorrow

I have my first official OB appointment tomorrow morning. I am not expecting too much. I am anxious to get my bloodwork done, that will be a sign that everything is looking good. I am not expecting another u/s for another 3 or 4 weeks. Since we had our 1st one so early. It's still too early to hear the HB on the doppler..so like I said not too much going on at this appt. Lots of paperwork and questions I suppose. I am interested to hear what my OB says about my health history, a little nervous. But since all my other doctors aren't concerned I wouldn't see why she would be.

We are so thrilled to tell Nick's parents this weekend! Here's hoping it can stay a secret until Easter!!!

Week 8 Begins!

Your baby is growing at an amazing rate — about a millimeter every day — and now is the size of a large raspberry. Your little berry is looking a lot less reptilian (even though she has webbed fingers and toes, her tail is just about gone) and a lot more baby-like these days, as her lips, nose, eyelids, legs, and back continue to take shape. Her heart is beating at the incredible rate of 150 times per minute — about twice as fast as yours! And even though you can't yet feel it, she's now making spontaneous movements as she twitches her tiny trunk and limb buds.

Let week 7 begin!

Your baby is now about the size of a blueberry (and about 10,000 times bigger than he was at conception). Most of that growth is concentrated in the head as new brain cells are generated at the rate of 100 per minute. Your baby's mouth and tongue are forming as arm and leg buds sprout, and those little kidneys are getting ready to do their job!

The most beautiful sound in the world...

...was hearing our baby's heartbeat for the first time! Our u/s sound went so well, couldn't have asked for more!!! Watching the little heart flutter and beat was such an amazing experience. Baby's doing great, measuring right on target with 6weeks 5days and a strong heart rate of 128bpm!!

Introducing our Gbaby! We like to call him/her sprout :O)

Anxious.

Nick brought to my attention today that we only have to wait 2 more days to see our little sprout. So exciting! I am sure tomorrow & Wednesday will not be over soon enough. Since we have found out we were expecting, Nick has all the faith in the world that this baby is as sticky as sticky can be. Me on the other hand, I am a nervous wreck. I am praying to God for the healthiest baby and I am doing everything in my power to ensure that! I am pretty nervous about the u/s to be honest, I am scared to death that something won't be right. I guess I just needed to put it out there maybe that will help calm my nerves. Even though I am pretty sure these nerves are going to stick around for the next 8 months!

XOXO
